SOCHI – Germany's national Olympic committee acknowledged Friday that one of its athletes failed a doping test in a news release posted on its Web site.

The athlete was not named, but the committee said the testing of the second "B" sample and a hearing in front of the International Olympic Committee disciplinary board were scheduled for Friday.

It's the first known positive test of the Sochi Games, which the IOC promised would include the toughest anti-doping program in Olympic history.

Germany has won 16 medals so far, including eight gold medals.
