Hilary Duff is defending her marriage to Mike Comrie in the wake of their recent separation news.

The actress slammed multiple tabloid stories regarding the demise of her three-year union to the retired hockey player. "Don't believe the s--t you read! & don't buy trash magazines! They are so gross and so negative," she tweeted on Wednesday, Jan. 15. "They literally make my skin crawl."

In Touch claimed Duff fell out of love with the ex-athlete. Sources told Life & Style that the spouses led separate lives and clashed over plans to expand their family. Us Weekly, meanwhile, reported that Comrie wasn't working hard enough at their relationship and that "the spark was no longer there." It also claimed that Duff and Comrie went to marriage counseling for 18 months prior to their split.

Duff, 26, married Comrie, 33, in Santa Barbara, Calif., in August 2010. They share son Luca, 22 months.

E! News was the first to report news of their split on Friday, Jan. 10. Duff's rep called the breakup "amicable" and added, "They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time."

"Mike and I are sitting here," Duff tweeted hours after her rep confirmed their split. "We are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together."
